Bette Jamison

Coordinator for ITV

Team leader for Instructional Television, Office of Technology, SDE

In my position, I am basically the cheerleader and coach for a team of dedicated professionals who serve our schools by providing quality instructional television resources and services for K-12 and professional development for administrators, teachers and school staffs.

I believe in our mission and enjoy all aspects of my job, especially visiting our SC schools to tape and provide workshops! This position has brought my career full circle, allowing me to use my background in education and instructional production.

I am a 1972 graduate from Columbia College with a teaching degree in Speech and Drama. Even though my office is the shadow of the USC football stadium and I did my master’s work in Mass Communications at USC, my money goes to Clemson to support my middle son's education! So, I wear orange and garnet!

I have worked in and around instructional television since 1973, being the second female producer/director at SCETV. A few of you might remember the Under the Blue Umbrella and Under the Yellow Balloon series that were produced by Sandra Thomas, my predecessor in ITV.  I was the director for several of those programs! But, my claim to fame would be directing 160 episodes or Highway Panorama and even some From Crime to Court programs way back in late 1970’s!

I worked in Virginia at WVPT Public Television in several capacities from production to fundraising and opened the first regional office for the station in Charlottesville, Virginia, but 14 years away from my home state, South Carolina, found me taking an opportunity to return in 1992.  Since then, I have been working in ITV, first as an Education Associate for Instructional Production and now as the team leader since early 1998.

I have raised three wonderful children – one son who is a special needs adult, one son still working on his higher education degree, and a daughter who heads off to college in the fall of 2004! My husband retired in 2002, but has been busier than ever building a log cabin on his 370 acres of land and 8 acre pond in Woodford, SC, so I am enjoying leisure time in our cabin in the woods. I appreciate my good health, family and friends…there is always much to be thankful for…and I am.
