The American masters Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein were dedicated educators who stimulated a generation of young people to better understand, appreciate, and listen to music. Inspired by their work and the need for continuing music education in American schools, Nashville Public Television and the Country Music Hall of Fame are partnering to produce this series for children. The series has several goals, the most important of which is to encourage the viewer to become an active listener who employs careful observation and critical thinking in the art of listening. Secondary goals include helping audiences make connections between concepts in music and other art forms such as the visual or performing arts, exposing students to a variety of music styles and genres, and introducing viewers to musical structure and terminology. Each program explores a musical idea through performances, conversations, and demonstrations. (© 2001)
